Title

Will A. Johnson House, 263 Main Street: Relocation (Part 2 of 5)

Subject

Will Johnson Home

Description

The Will and Marie (Laycock) Johnson home at 263 Main Street was constructed in 1906 for Lydia Finley, who never lived in the house. It was initially the residence of farm employees of the Finley farm. It was purchased about 1912 by Will A (Sr) and Nelle (nee Lye) Johnson. The house was located as the last building on the south end of Main Street on the west side.

The original home had been purchased by Sugar Grove Township from Will Johnson (1911-1994) and subsequently sold to the Azemi Family. On March 30, 1997, the Johnson House was dismantled section by section to be relocated and rebuilt in Maple Park by the Azemis Family: Rakip, Meeja, and Hazis Azemi. The Azemi Family painstakingly disassembled the structure in order to reuse parts of it. The house was rebuilt on Rt. 38 East of Maple Park. Elements of the original home were used to construct this much larger home that uses the same roof pitch as the original built in 1905.
