Alberta (Seavey) Anthony, age 85 of Manhattan, KS died March 19, 2003 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

She was born January 18, 1918 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Harry W. and Clara (Banker) Seavey and had been an Manhattan resident since 1955. She graduated with her bachelors from Morningside College in 1939 and received her certificate of Physical Therapy from the Mayo Clinic in 1942. Mrs. Anthony served as a Captain in the United States Army from June 1943 to June 1947 in Nottingham, England and Battle Creek, Michigan. She taught school for three years as an elementary and secondary physical education. Locally she had been a physical therapist at College Hill Nursing Home and at Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1974. Alberta was a member of First Congregational Church, P.E.O. Review Club, American Veterinarian Medical Association Auxiliary and the Kansas Veteran Medical Association. On May 21, 1955, in Aurora, IL, she was married to Harry D. Anthony, DVM. He preceded her in death on January 16, 1995.

Also preceding her in death was one son, John David Anthony; a sister, Martha Giese of Clearwater, FL and her parents. Survivors include two children, Harry "Seavey" Anthony of Overland Park, KS and Lisa Jane Gardner and her husband, Darrell Tierney of Lenexa, KS; a sister, Jane Buell, who is now residing in Manhattan; one brother, Harvey of Aurora, IL and seven grandchildren: Jessica, Haley and Benjamin Anthony, Chase and Reed Gardner and Emily and Shelly Tierney.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Community Room at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community with Reverend R. Kent Cormack officiating. Interment at a later date in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meadowlark Hills Good Samaritan Fund, First Congregational Church or the Harry D. and Alberta F. Anthony Award in Veterinary Medicine.
