"The Lions Club of Sugar Grove received its official charter at a banquet attended by 180 Lions Club members and their wives.
"The official charter, with signatures of the 61 Sugar Grove Charter members was presented to President Leigh Sauer by Elmer Buhs, president of the Sandwich Lions, the sponsoring club, and Arthur Karnstedt, District Governor of 1-J. Sauer also accepted a gong and gavel fro the Sandwich Lions and a club banner fro Paul Schwegel, President of the McHenry Lions Club.
Among the guest were Lions from Elburn, Aurora, North Aurora, Geneva, Elmhurst, Lisle, Maple Park, Waterman, Sandwich, Algonquin, Lake of the Hills and McHenry.
Guest Speaker, Lyle Nelson, District Governor of 1-A, spoke on "Lionism," stressing that heart envoled projects is the secret of Lionism.
"Dancing and fellowship followed the business meeting.
"The next meeting of the Sugar Grove Lions will be May 22 at 8 p.m. at the Prestbury Clubhouse, when Lion Joe Lutz will present a special slide program on Gettysburg.
"In June the group will meet at the Sensory Gardens. Details to be announced later."
