Stitched by the skillful hand of Vicki Frantz, this Underground Railroad Quilt contains the following legend, where each square is a code numbered 1 - 15 from left to right, top to bottom:

Story of the Underground Railroad

The Monkey Wrench [1] turns the Wagon Wheel [2] toward Canada. With help from Jesus, he Carpenter, [3] follow the Bears' Trail [4] through the woods.

Fill your Baskets [5] with enough food and supplies to get you to the Crossroads [6]. Once you get to the Crossroads, dig a Log Cabin [7] in the ground.

Shoofly [8] told us to dress up in cotton and satin Bow Ties [9].

Follow the Flying Geese [10] and Birds in the Air [11], stay on the Drunkard's Path [12]. Take the Sailboat [13] across the Great Lakes to the North Star [14] above Canada.
